Committee members discussed potential locations for the Button Project, a tall, tactile piece that has been in storage and requires a prominent indoor or protected site. Candidates included the public library, the middle school, community campus (senior center/recreation), the new police station and other municipal facilities.
After weighing considerations such as public access, educational value and the piece's tactile nature (and concern about heavy use in a school setting), the group coalesced around a recommendation that the Button Project be installed at the Community Campus, where staff and visitors use the building and the work could be interpreted with explanatory signage. Members noted Community Campus is managed by the Recreation Department (Todd Henley was cited as the director).
The committee asked staff to prepare an email recommendation for the city manager describing the suggested placement and signage/interpretation needs. Members also discussed the possibility of a re-unveiling or artist presentation to re-energize public interest if the piece is relocated.
The meeting record shows a consensus recommendation but no formal vote; staff agreed to carry the committee’s recommendation to city leadership.
