Boulder Arts Commission members on Feb. 26 were briefed on a milestone in a major cultural project: a selection panel chose SOIL (a New York City–based design firm) and COBURN (local support firm) to lead the design phase.
Staff reported the selection followed review of roughly 65 submissions and interviews of shortlisted teams. Commission members who participated in the selection noted site visits and referenced SOIL’s prior cultural campus and lighting-system experience as reasons the team was recommended. David and Gwen, who participated in the review, told commissioners they favored SOIL’s approach and the added local expertise that COBURN brings.
Caroline (staff) said the contract procurement was complete and staff expects to begin the design phase shortly. Commissioners described the decision as “a huge milestone” and thanked committee members for their review work.
No formal commission vote was required at the meeting; staff characterized the announcement as an informational update on the consultant selection, not a contract authorization action. Staff said they will return with schedule details and design-phase public engagement opportunities for the commission to review.
