Jones County grants easement for Georgia Power line upgrade; project includes five new poles

Georgia Power representatives told Jones County commissioners on Jan. 3 the company needs an easement to install five new poles and a regulator platform to replace copper hardware with aluminum and improve reliability.
Tony Orozco, identified as Georgia Power’s land department representative, said the project will “replace the copper hardware on some of our line with aluminum, which is more reliable and dependable,” and will tie an existing line on U.S. 129 to a line on Widener Road by attaching to Tri County EMC lines.
The company requested permission to access the western side of the parcel where one outlying tree will need to be removed and a small amount of concrete will be taken out. Orozco said the project also improves service reliability for customers in the Round Oak/Wayside area, including a nearby nursing home.
After brief questions about the exact pole/platform location and tree removal, a commissioner moved to approve the easement request. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Georgia Power said it will construct, maintain and upgrade the line as needed within the easement and will keep obstructions out of the right-of-way.
