On Sept. 6, 2018, the Board of Commissioners of Jones County, Georgia, adopted a set of budgets for the fiscal year beginning Sept. 1, 2018, and ending Aug. 31, 2019, totaling $28,531,220.68 and approved a corrected levy resolution requested by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
County Administrator Jason presented the budget package, saying, “what you have before you is the proposed FY 18 19 budget. It's our pleasure to to present this to you, for adoption tonight.” The adopted packet included budgets for the general fund; juvenile cost and fees fund; the law library; confiscated-drug education; the jail fund; 2009, 2015 and 2006 SPLOST projects; a TE grant; CDBG Sun Valley; impact fees; the CHIP grant; the water and sewer fund; and the RiverNorth Special Tax District Fund. Jason told the board the total of those budgets was $28,531,220.68.
The general fund budget includes a contingency line item of $981,002 and the water fund a contingency of $239,996, both of which the board may authorize for unforeseen expenses or special requests. The budget resolution as presented directs that funding for any other special requests must be approved by the Board of Commissioners.
Board members moved and seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and the budgets; the board approved the resolution by voice vote (all in favor).
The board then approved a corrected levy resolution prepared for submission to the Georgia Department of Revenue. Finance staff member Levita explained that the department requested a different format so that the gross mill rate for incorporated and unincorporated areas start from the same figure; she said the change was a formatting computation and that “there's absolutely no impact at all on the actual millage rates.” The board moved, seconded and approved the corrected levy resolution by voice vote (all in favor).
No further discussion or formal amendments to the budgets or levy resolution were recorded. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn and the call meeting ended shortly after 6:00 p.m.
