The North Wasco County School District 21 Board of Directors voted Thursday to find a complaint filed Jan. 9, 2025, "without merit" and instructed district legal counsel to notify the complainant of the board's reasons.
Director Nelson moved the motion, which Director Windledge seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote after discussion in executive session. Director Vermaud, Director Lopez, Director Nelson, Doctor Richardson and Director Weneldige recorded votes in favor; Director Jones recorded an abstention. The motion passed and the board directed counsel to notify the complainant of the decision.
The action followed executive-session review earlier in the month and was presented in open session as a motion for board action. Board members did not elaborate on the underlying facts of the complaint in open session; the motion directed counsel to provide the complainant a written explanation of the board's determination.
The vote and direction are procedural steps the district follows after closed-session review of personnel- or complaint-related matters. The board chair stated that counsel should be directed accordingly and the motion was carried.
The board did not discuss further public remedies or next steps in open session; the decision as recorded authorizes only counsel to notify the complainant of the board's reasons.
