Staff reported several resident care and staffing updates to the Neighbors of Dunn County standing committee at the Feb. 27 meeting.
Carmen, the quality assurance presenter, told the committee there were a couple of recent COVID outbreaks that the quality assurance steering committee reviewed. Carmen also reported that the campus beautician resigned to return to school; staff said they found a replacement who will begin in March and will visit buildings one to two days per week. Carmen said residents pay the beautician directly and that the new provider has a different pricing schedule; families and residents will be notified of the change.
On staffing and recruitment, Chris reported recruitment activity for the period: four direct‑hire interviews, five agency interviews, three positions offered, two positions accepted, and one offer made above step 3 (a rehired nurse). Chris also reported 21 missed shifts related to COVID and no lost‑time work‑comp incidents in January. Chris said several smaller FTEs left and that homemaker positions are filled; she said the director of nursing clinical mentor, Charles, resigned in early February for family reasons and that staff conducted two internal interviews for that role.
CNA training continues: staff said CNA classes have been held roughly once a month with evening classes and clinicals; to reduce crowding, clinicals have been spread to outer buildings rather than concentrating in the central building.
Resident referral and census detail: staff said the month began with 101 residents and ended at 102, with 109 referrals reported for the month and nine admissions. Staff noted that short‑term rehab beds and long‑term beds fill at different rates and that hospital outbreaks slowed some admissions across the region.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about how the monthly census is compiled and where staff are focusing recruiting efforts. Carmen and Chris responded that reporting cut‑off times and admissions-in-process can cause small differences from day to day, and that recruiting continues for RN, LPN and CNA positions as well as for the nursing clinical mentor role.
Less critical: staff noted that notifications about the new beautician’s pricing will go to families and that they hope to report a hiring decision for the clinical mentor role at next month’s meeting.
