San Luis High School students present Career and Technical Education programs to council

Students and student leaders from San Luis High School presented the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to the council on Feb. 12, outlining course offerings, program benefits and certification opportunities.
Student presenters identified about 15 CTE classes offered at the high school, including agriscience, business management, construction, culinary arts, digital photography, early childhood education, film and TV/broadcast, law and public safety, and other programs. Presenters described industry-aligned certifications available to students — for example, OSHA 10/30 in construction, food-handler and CPR certifications in early childhood and culinary programs, and technical-skill assessments such as TSA evaluations.
Students said CTE programs provide hands-on experience, industry certifications and leadership development, and they invited councilmembers to tour the campus. Several councilmembers praised the students and encouraged them to continue the programs; one councilmember noted a planned tour of a culinary arts facility that had been under construction.
The student presenters asked for council advocacy and support for state and federal funding that helps purchase equipment and provide industry-standard training. The council thanked the students and indicated support for continued advocacy on funding.
