Williston board names Britney Kilgore to vacancy; recognizes Williston Education Association as bargaining representative

The board also considered a petition from the Williston Education Association seeking official recognition as the representative organization for teachers. A board member moved that the board had investigated the petition, found the association represented a majority of the teachers in the unit, and recognize it as the representative organization. The board seconded the motion and recorded aye votes; the chair announced the motion passed. The recognition was approved for a minimum term beginning Feb. 28, 2025.
Members who spoke before the appointment urged both applicants to run in the June election and described both as qualified. One board member said, “I would encourage both applicants to run for the June election,” and others described Kilgore’s activity within the schools and experience working with the district when explaining their votes.
No formal separate motion to confirm the appointment was recorded after the roll-call naming; the chair stated no further action appeared necessary. On the association recognition item, the mover read a statement summarizing the board’s finding that the petition showed a majority of teachers supported recognition and moved to formally recognize the association as the representative organization for at least one year starting Feb. 28, 2025.
