Lake County Community Development to switch permitting software from Accela to OpenGov; counter closed briefly for data migration

Lake County’s Community Development Department told the Planning Commission on Feb. 27 that it will replace its existing Accela electronic permitting system with OpenGov, temporarily closing the public counter to migrate data and prepare for a March 3 go-live.
The Community Development director (name not recorded in the transcript) said staff have been preparing the transition and that the counter will be closed on Friday, Feb. 28, while the department transfers data; callers may still schedule inspections by phone during the closure. Michelle, a department staff member involved in the conversion, said staff will input active planning projects into the new system so applicants will not have to reapply. She said the migration will allow applicants to track application status directly through OpenGov and that department staff will perform the bulk of the data entry.
The director said Lakeport and Clear Lake already use OpenGov and staff coordinated with Lakeport during the selection process. County staff also plan two weeks of concentrated support with OpenGov after go-live to troubleshoot issues. The director asked for patience from the public, noting the department anticipates a few glitches during the initial rollout.
The director additionally invited commissioners to a department staff open-house next Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the director said the gathering is an internal staff event and not intended for department business.
