Lake County Community Development told the Planning Commission Feb. 27, 2025, it will switch its electronic permitting system from Accela to OpenGov to improve usability and align county processes with neighboring cities.
Department staff said the public counter will be closed Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, while staff transfer data, but inspections will continue and applicants may schedule inspections by phone during the outage. Staff said they expect to go live with OpenGov on Monday, March 3, 2025, and have a two-week hypercare plan with OpenGov representatives to address initial issues.
Staff said they will import active planning projects into the new system so applicants will not need to reapply and that the OpenGov platform will allow direct communication with applicants and visibility into application workflow and status. The department noted it consulted with the City of Lakeport, which uses OpenGov, during its selection process.
Department staff asked the public for patience during the transition and said they will contact applicants whose projects are being migrated. The intent, staff said, is to provide a more intuitive system for applicants and for cities and the county to share a common permitting platform.
Ending: The department expects initial glitches and is prepared to troubleshoot, and staff encouraged applicants with immediate needs to call the department during the short counter closure.
