McMahon said the applicant, owner Raymundo Neto, expects to revise the proposal after the planning board’s March 10 meeting and wants the council to consider the same comprehensive materials. Several councilors urged caution, noting a zoning-change decision affects all future uses allowed in the new district, regardless of the applicant’s present plan. Councilor Roby said the issue is whether rezoning is appropriate, independent of any later special-permit proposals.
The motion to continue passed after a roll-call-style count recorded by the chair: seven in favor and three opposed. The council scheduled the continued public hearing for 8 p.m. on Monday, March 10.
No final rezoning decision was reached Thursday; councilors said the continuance preserves the council’s review of the rezoning question after the planning board process.
