Belton City Council approved the first reading of bill 2025-11, authorizing a clinical agreement to host emergency medical technician and paramedic students from the University of Missouri–Kansas City paramedic program (now managed by the Kansas City Fire Department) for supervised clinical experience with the Belton Fire Department.
A council member noted a Scrivener’s error in the original document that omitted the University of Missouri–Kansas City Paramedic program name; staff corrected the agreement language to reference the correct program and explained the agreement updates the jurisdiction named in the clinical-placement agreement because management of the paramedic program has shifted to the Kansas City Fire Department.
Staff said the city has multiple agreements with area schools to host EMT and paramedic students for clinical observation and training on city ambulances, and that this ordinance updates the agreement to reflect the proper administering agency. The council approved the first reading on a voice vote.
