San Juan OKs 10-year interlocal waste-disposal agreement with Edinburg

The City Commission approved an interlocal waste-disposal agreement between San Juan and the City of Edinburg at the Oct. 8 meeting. City staff said the agreement largely matches the prior 10-year arrangement but includes price changes for specific items such as tire disposal.
City staff and the city attorney reviewed the contract and said there were no major operational changes beyond the updated prices. The contract covers only solid waste delivered to the landfill; staff noted fees for tire disposal were changed in the new draft. The agreement contains an automatic extension provision: it will be automatically extended for an additional five years from June 30, 2025, unless the parties decline to renew, effectively extending some obligations through 2035 under the contract’s renewal language.
City staff recommended approval; commissioners moved and the resolution was approved by voice vote. The city attorney and public-works staff will continue contract administration and monitor pricing adjustments during the contract term.
