Resident raises pothole and sidewalk-safety concerns; city staff points to online reporting

During the public-comment portion of the Feb. 26 Planning Commission meeting, resident Mark Gaddis told commissioners he encountered uneven sidewalk gravel near Papa Eager Park and widespread potholes on Ninth and F streets that he said were creating safety and maintenance concerns.
Gaddis, who said he lives a block from Papa Eager Park and has been bicycling there while recovering from knee surgery, described drain-box areas where “the sidewalk was not matching” and where contractors had filled gaps with three-quarter-inch gravel. He said pedestrians and bicyclists must step off the sidewalk to cross those spots. Gaddis also reported “massive potholes” that he worried would worsen and begin tearing up vehicle tires.
A city staff member responded on the record that the City of Imperial maintains an online reporting tool called “report a pothole” and that staff would try to publicize that channel more widely. The staff member said the commission’s office had taken notes on Gaddis’s reports and would follow up. The record includes no formal action on the issues during the meeting.
