Council approves $33,000 transfer to support city engineering and professional services

The Holyoke City Council on Feb. 24 approved a $33,000 transfer to cover staffing and professional engineering services for the city engineer's office.
Councillor Michael Devine, reporting from the finance committee, said the committee recommended the transfer and noted the city's newly hired civil engineer began work after a Jan. 12 interview process. Devine told the council the transfer will cover items including a hoisting equipment operator and professional engineering services and recommended passage that night.
The council passed the transfer on a unanimous roll-call vote. Devine suggested the new city engineer be invited to a future meeting to present on outstanding engineering needs; several councilors agreed such a briefing would be useful.
The transfer was recorded as item 7 on the meeting agenda and was adopted without amendment.
