Meade County Treasurer Robin Schreich updated commissioners on issues after the county’s recent switch to the state’s 605 Drive title system. Schreich said the new system requires additional photocopies tied to barcoded titles and that staff have been staying as late as 5:30 p.m. to complete daily balancing with the state.
“We are staying until about 05:30 in the evenings trying to get balanced out,” Treasurer Robin Schreich said. She said the office is seeing higher consumption of ink and paper and that the county might collect transaction data to decide whether to close at 4:30 p.m. for a short adjustment period, an approach other counties are considering.
Schreich told commissioners that three days of data should show whether an earlier close would be feasible and noted the county is working through implementation issues with other counties in the state. She also said staff are handling the increase in phone volume and are returning calls by the end of the day when possible.
Commissioners thanked staff for adapting quickly during the transition; no formal policy change was adopted at the meeting. Schreich said the office is short one staff member but that remaining staff have been steadying operations while implementing the new system.
