The Clark County School Board approved three personnel policy changes on first and second reading at its February meeting that together add five floating holidays for 12-month employees and update the district’s tuition-reimbursement recovery procedures.
Board members and staff explained the two holiday-related policy revisions were designed to reduce the number of in‑building days for 10‑ and 11‑month employees to 190, while recognizing 12‑month employees work different schedules. The revised policy grants five floating holidays to 12‑month employees rather than adding annual or personal days; staff said floating holidays do not accrue or carry monetary value at year-end and therefore avoid creating a future payout liability.
Dr. Bolling said floating holidays are commonly used to give 12‑month employees choice over which breaks to take without increasing annual leave balances. Board members discussed variations across districts and the practical reasons for using floating holidays to address two different 12‑month contract lengths (240 and 247 days) within the division.
A separate policy amendment clarifies that, when an employee owes tuition-reimbursement money to the division, the division may recover those funds from the employee’s final paycheck using established forms reviewed by the division’s attorneys. The board approved all three policies by unanimous voice vote, 5–0.
Board materials indicated attorneys reviewed the tuition-reimbursement language and required forms before the policy change was presented to the board.
