School board approves 2025–26 calendar with earlier August start and 190-day teacher schedule

The Clark County School Board approved the 2025–26 academic calendar (draft 1) at its February meeting, selecting the option preferred by 73% of surveyed staff.
Dr. Bolling presented two draft calendars differing mainly in the student start date and in a proposed four-day employee weekend for most staff in February. He told the board both calendars reduced on-site teacher days from 195 this year to 190 next year while recognizing teachers perform additional planning and grading offsite; the division intends to treat days beyond 190 and up to the 200‑day contract as awarded time for planning and grading. Dr. Bolling said both calendars include 76 student days, 14 workdays, and three additional workdays for new employees, resulting in 193 workdays for new staff.
Board members said they had discussed the matter at prior meetings and that draft 1 aligned with staff survey preferences. A motion to approve draft 1 carried on a unanimous voice vote, 5–0.
Dr. Bolling said staff would follow up with elementary principals to explore options to increase elementary teachers’ planning time during the school day; he noted the division has used unscheduled remote learning days in the past but that state guidance indicates meal-service continuation is a recommended best practice rather than a requirement for remote instruction days.
The board approved the calendar to finalize planning for FY26 instructional scheduling.
