The Royal Palm Beach Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 25 approved a special-exception use, by a 5-0 vote, to allow the NRI Institute of Health Sciences to operate an extension campus at 1402 Broad Palm Beach Boulevard, Building 600.
Planning staff presented the request as a special-exception use to permit a public or private academic institution within an office-commercial (OC) zoning district. Staff reviewed the application against village standards, including consistency with the village comprehensive plan, development regulations, traffic and pedestrian impacts, effects on adjacent properties, and potential impacts on public facilities. The site plan was updated to identify the proposed building location and to add a bicycle rack, which staff highlighted in the review.
Dan Splain, appearing for the applicant, said the NRI Institute intends to use the site for classrooms and offices as an extension campus and described the purchase of the building as evidence of the organization’s long-term commitment to Royal Palm Beach. Staff recommended approval and asked that the commission forward a recommendation to the Village Council as appropriate. Commissioner [name recorded as Albert in the transcript] moved; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Christopher Butler and carried, 5-0.
No public comments were given on the item during the meeting. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded per the village’s review process.
