Committee votes to forward Frederick Water easement for Sherando High School to full board

Staff recommended, and the committee voted Jan. 13 to forward to the full school board a proposed easement allowing Frederick Water to place and maintain water and sewer lines near Sherando High School.

David Frank of Pennoni described the easement map and said the requested area follows the future extension of Warrior Drive and ties into an improved pump station. He said some waterline extensions could be installed without disturbing school pavements, but any work crossing paved areas or roadways would be scheduled during breaks or summer to avoid student presence.

Frank said contractor coordination has included notifying the school and scheduling disruptive activities outside of school hours. “The contractor has been doing the construction, off hours, so most of this construction would occur during the summer or during breaks, when there is no school activity occurring,” he said.

The committee chair asked for a motion to send the easement to the full board. A committee member made the motion and a second was recorded. The chair called for a voice vote: “All those in favor… signify by saying aye.” Committee members responded, the chair said there were no opposing votes and the motion passed.

Staff said paving and disturbed surfaces would be restored after work and emphasized ongoing coordination with the school principal. The committee’s vote forwards the easement for formal action at an upcoming full-board meeting; staff did not request final easement approval at this meeting.
