FCPS planning and construction details timelines for modulars, roofs and master plans

Kenny (assistant director for planning and construction) presented the committee’s monthly capital projects update at the Feb. 10, 2025 meeting, summarizing schedules and next steps for multiple FCPS projects.
Key near-term items: modular classroom deliveries and installation are scheduled for spring and summer. Kenny said civil drawings are complete for the Middletown modular project, electrical drawings had been sent to vendors and cost estimates were expected by the end of February; delivery for one modular vendor was tentatively set for April 1 with on-site work continuing through April and May and systems work (fire alarm, data, electrical) scheduled for summer. Bass Hoover elementary modulars (four units) moved to the funded list and were described as starting immediately with the goal of being ready for the 2025–26 school year. James Wood middle/high school modular activity also continues and schematic design work is underway for Middletown and Jordan Springs, with the first cost-estimating round due by March 1.
Roof and mechanical projects: Kenny said the James Wood Middle School roof replacement had been pushed to March, Apple Pie roof replacement has started with no issues, and multiple boiler projects (Sherando, Apple Pie, Stonewall, Bass Hoover) are planned across spring and early summer with specific start months cited. Janeswood/James Wood renovation work was reported as in the final phase: science labs and special education areas were due to be completed and turned over by March 31, followed by paving during spring break and punch-list work.
Other items in the update included design work on Woodside Lane (behind James Wood) with test borings completed and work planned to go to permitting and pricing by March 1; coordination with Shenandoah Valley Electric for power-pole relocation and easement work; and the Sarando (Sherando) High School master plan, which Kenny said involved VDOT, neighboring developers and school staff to consider bus routing, parcel consolidation, and site programming.
Kenny said planning and construction offices are relocating to the annex building and referenced ongoing meetings with staff. Committee members asked whether the update was sufficiently detailed for the public; they also requested slides on proposed modular locations at a future Building and Grounds meeting.
No formal action was taken; the presentation was informational and staff said they would return with more detailed slides and cost-estimating updates.
