Moraga council hears planning commission candidate interviews, sets March 1 application deadline

The council heard in'person statements from three applicants: an incumbent planning commissioner identified as Alexis, Casey Garcia and William Weber. Alexis described her three years on the planning commission and pointed to increased public engagement in recent hearings. "I've loved the 3 years. It's been a great experience being on the planning commission the last 3 years," she said.
Casey Garcia introduced herself as a long'time Moraga resident with a master's degree in city and regional planning from UC Berkeley and work experience focused on housing and community development. "Since you don't know me, my name is Casey Garcia. I have been a resident for most of the past 35 years," Garcia said, and described professional work on affordable housing strategies and programmatic services for cities and nonprofits.
William Weber said his career includes state'level policy work and that he sought a slower, local role where he could apply his experience. He emphasized listening and using staff work as the basis for decisions.
Council discussion covered term'limit language in the Moraga municipal code and how reappointments are handled; Brenda Luster's fourth consecutive term was noted as a code issue that council may address later. The council agreed to interview the three candidates that night but to delay formal appointment until remaining applications (if any) could be evaluated together.
On a formal motion, the council set the application period end date to March 1 and directed staff to return the consolidated appointment item at the earliest possible meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
Ending: Councilmembers said they expect staff to post the application deadline and to place the appointment item on the next available council meeting agenda for final action.
