School board approves three change orders for Acomac Primary, adding sewer tie, generator and landscaping

The Accomack County School Board voted Feb. 4 to add three alternates to the Acomac Primary construction contract: connection to the sanitary sewer, a full‑building generator and landscaping/plantings.
Facilities staff presented the alternates and cost estimates. The sanitary sewer tie to the Hampton Roads Sanitation District was listed at $247,500 and would replace the base bid septic system; a full building generator was $240,460; and landscaping and plantings were $45,418. The base bid from the contractor was $8,216,000; adding the three alternates brings the total to $8,749,978 if all change orders are accepted.
A board member moved to approve the three alternates, a second was recorded and the motion carried on a voice vote. Facilities staff said the construction contract was under final review by the division attorney and that a notice to proceed would follow once the contract was signed.
Ending: Staff said they will prepare the contract documents and start the procurement and construction scheduling once the contract is executed.
