Porter County commissioners create ambulance-service committee to advise on contract renewal

The Porter County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to form an ambulance service committee to advise the county about the renewal and procurement approach for ambulance services covering most unincorporated areas.
The resolution, introduced by county staff, directs establishment of a committee including two county council members and one commissioner; the commissioners may appoint an additional member with ambulance or contract-negotiation experience and the county council may also appoint an additional member. The committee will evaluate options for procuring ambulance services — whether to issue a request for proposals, conduct a sealed bid process or begin direct negotiation — and will return a recommendation to the commissioners.
Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote. The board agreed to open the application period for any appointed positions and to set an application deadline timed to permit review before the next commissioners’ meeting.
