Parent voices special-education complaints; Cosby parent raises safety and facility concerns

During the meeting's public comment period, parent Wendy Little urged the board to address what she described as multiple denials of services to her child and broader special-education compliance failures.

"Aaron Little was denied a full year's worth of education," Wendy Little said, attributing her family's ongoing dispute to what she described as "massive resistance" and alleging legal and grant-related consequences for the division. She told the board she had raised concerns previously and said she would continue pursuing the matter, and she said she hoped for federal-level enforcement actions to increase compliance.

Later, Cosby High parent Michael Carabinos described safety and facility concerns behind Cosby High School on Village Square Parkway, saying the area was "pitch dark" and that dozens of cars parked there during the school day. Carabinos also urged better auditorium facilities for performance theater and raised a question about the division's bell-to-bell cell phone policy in emergency situations.

Board clerk and staff reminded the public that comments submitted through the division's online form were posted to the board's website and would be appended to the official minutes, and that in-person comments would be summarized in the record.

Why it matters: The comments raised two issues the board hears regularly: individual special-education disputes that may require legal or procedural responses from staff, and school safety and facility needs that connect to capital planning and county road or lighting responsibilities.
