The Henrico County School Board completed its annual reorganization at a Jan. 9 work session, electing Marcy Shea chair and Madison Irvin vice chair for the 2025 calendar year and approving several administrative items including the clerk, superintendent designees, meeting dates and a large consent agenda.
Alicia Atkins nominated Marcy Shea for chair; Shea was approved by voice vote. "Thank you so much to my colleagues for this honor," Shea said after the vote and praised outgoing leader Alicia Atkins for her "thoughtful and diligent leadership over the last year." The board presented Atkins with a plaque on behalf of the board and the division.
Madison Irvin was nominated and confirmed as vice chair. The board also approved Tiffany Burton as clerk; that nomination was made by a member identified in the meeting as the superintendent's representative. The board accepted the superintendent's recommendation to designate the chief of school leadership as the superintendent's designee to attend board meetings in the superintendent's absence, with the chief of staff named as secondary designee.
The board established the second and fourth Thursdays of each month as its regular meeting days to comply with Chapter 7, Title 22.1 of the Code of Virginia, with the caveat that dates may be added or changed during the year. Members approved the consent agenda covering items listed as 4.01 through 4.402 (as recorded in the meeting packet) without discussion.
All procedural motions before the board were approved by voice vote and the chair declared the motions passed. No contested or roll-call votes were recorded in the transcript; vote tallies were announced as "the motion passes" or "the ayes have it."
