The La Porte Urban Enterprise Association approved two community enhancement grants of $500 each to the La Porte Parks and Recreation Department: one for Movies in the Park on June 6, 2025, and one for a 5K event scheduled for April 26, 2025 (Earth Day). The grants are part of the UEA’s community enhancement program, which provides awards of up to $500 for events inside the UEA zone.
The motion to approve Movies in the Park was moved and seconded; the board carried the motion. The 5K grant was also approved after a separate motion.
The meeting also included routine financial business. The claims docket passed; staff noted one item was the final (fifth) payment to Bridal King, described as payment 5 of 5. Board members discussed that about five businesses in the district remain delinquent on mandatory contributions; staff estimated most owe roughly $2,000 to $3,000 each and will follow up with invoices, contact attempts and possible disqualification if collections are not completed. Staff said they will contact those businesses and report back at the next meeting.
Staff asked members to apply and to direct event organizers to Mary Ann Richards at City Hall for grant applications. Staff also discussed updating the city website and a press-release process for UEA activities; Jessica was named as the contact for web updates.
Ending: The board set its next meeting for March 19, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the City Council Chambers and adjourned.
