The Warren County School Board received reports from Skyline Middle School and several elementary schools at its Jan. 8 meeting.
Skyline Middle School highlighted the growth of its band program, including performances at a well-attended Halloween event and the winter concert. Band director Miss Leech described the All-District audition process and congratulated eighth-grader Penelope Dublin for earning a seat in All-District Band; Miss Leech explained students prepare a solo, memorized scales and a sight-reading exercise before selection. Band staff said the program is piloting collaboration with Skyline High School — including a commissioned piece set to premiere in May — to provide more performance opportunities for eighth graders.
The board also recognized elementary attendance work: AS Rhodes was named the elementary winner for December and E. Wilson Morrison was reported as the most improved with a 1.33 percentage-point increase to a 93.26% attendance rate for the month. The superintendent noted December attendance figures and encouraged continued efforts to reduce absences and tardies.
