Local nonprofits donate clothing, food and $6,520 to Warren County schools to support students in need

The Warren County School Board on Jan. 8 accepted a $6,520 donation from the Hike Kids Foundation and recognized several community organizations that donated clothing, food, mattresses and gift cards to support students experiencing housing insecurity.
A representative of the Hike Kids Foundation told the board the fundraised $6,520 would be allocated across the division’s five elementary schools based on each school’s percentage of low-income students. The packet and presentation listed the per-school allocations: E. Wilson Morrison — $1,774; Rusty Jeffries — $1,392; Leslie Fox Kaiser — $1,255; Hilda J. Barber — $1,145; and A. S. Rhodes — $954. The board approved the donation.
Separately, the McKinney-Vento liaison, Joanna McHugh Martin, reported donations in November and December 2024 from Rockland Church, Cornerstone Church, Leeds Church and the Retired Teachers Organization. Those donations included winter outerwear, food, store cards and air mattresses. Board members asked that donation activity be shared with the board and the community on a bimonthly basis.
