Board approves sale of surplus security cameras to Gloucester County; equipment list and proceeds noted

The Isle of Wight County School Board voted unanimously on Feb. 13 to approve a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus security cameras and related equipment to Gloucester County Public Schools.
IT staff said the contractor selected to handle the district’s surplus collection offered free recycling but no monetary return. IT reached out to regional colleagues; Gloucester County was the only division to express interest in acquiring the equipment. The inventory included approximately 31 Cisco 6620 models, 11 Cisco 30520 models, nine Cisco 6600 series and several additional cameras, IT staff said. The equipment will be sent to Gloucester and Gloucester will remit payment to Isle of Wight.
The motion to approve the resolution passed on a roll call: John Kolick — yes; Randy Perkins — yes; Mark Wooster — yes; Jason Marsh — yes. The meeting minutes show the motion and second on the agenda and the clerk recorded the unanimous vote of the members present (one member, Michael Cunningham, was absent).
Why this matters: salvaging value from surplus equipment reduces waste and returns funds to the division; transferring useful equipment to a neighboring division avoids disposal and extends asset life.
What’s next: IT will coordinate removal and shipment of the listed cameras and document the payment from Gloucester to the division’s accounts.
