Fire department signs three-year online training contract and pursues engineered addition to metal building

A fire department representative reported to the First Response Services Committee that the department signed a three-year contract with Target Solutions for an online training module accepted by the state's certification system. "We did sign an agreement last week with Target Solutions, and we did sign a 3 year contract," the representative said, adding the longer term yielded better pricing.
The representative said the online modules can be completed individually or used for group training and will allow firefighters to receive credit without waiting for outside instructors.
On facilities, the representative said the department met with Wayne Oakley of Studio Oakley Architects to discuss a planned addition to the metal station building. Oakley told them the design costs will likely rise because fire stations must be engineered as essential-service buildings able to withstand certain severe weather and remain operational. The representative said Oakley expects to provide crude site plans and elevation drawings by the next committee meeting.
Committee members confirmed the existing metal structure is steel-framed on a concrete slab and noted it meets necessary sturdiness standards. The fire representative said the plan is to use the engineered addition to house vehicles and equipment.
No formal committee vote on construction was recorded; the department is preparing site plans and cost estimates for future consideration.
