RHC agrees to sign letter supporting $5 million state capital request for Boulevard Road Habitat project

The Regional Housing Council on Feb. 26 approved signing a letter of support for a $5 million capital-budget request submitted by South Sound Habitat for Humanity for a Boulevard Road housing project in Olympia.
Danny Madrone introduced the item and said the request came in recently and that the project already appears on the RHC’s legislative agenda. The letter is addressed to state legislators leading the capital budget; Madrone said the request is joint with the City of Olympia because the project is sited in Olympia.
Brad (city staff) provided a brief update on Habitat’s Tumwater project when asked during discussion, and a staff member later reported that the Tumwater site has completed construction on the first units and anticipates selling units in March, with subsequent phases following in the spring. Danny moved the RHC sign-on and a second was recorded; Councilmember Michael Althausen said he would abstain from the vote because it involves legislative advocacy. The motion passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded in the meeting audio.
The council did not attach conditions to the sign-on during the Feb. 26 meeting. Staff will deliver the signed letter to the City of Olympia staff for joint submission to the legislative delegation.
