Board hears plan to move report cards to PowerSchool and simplify badge language

Franklin County Public Schools staff presented changes to the student report card used in the division and told the board on Feb. 10 they plan a phased move back into PowerSchool for standards-based reporting.
"We have transitioned to a PDF format as opposed to the Google Sheets," said Miss Benor, the staff presenter, describing changes for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year. Staff said parents will receive a PDF document rather than a link to a Google Sheet and that the division renamed child-friendly badge labels to clearer academic terms (for example, beginning/developing/growing/strong).
Administrators said the badge report has been removed from what goes home and parents will receive a two-page PDF showing "I can" statements with a numeric score and a written comment section. The division will move to a 1–4 numeric scale inside PowerSchool in 2025–26 and phase grades in by cohort to avoid confusing parents and teachers during the school year.
Board members asked whether teachers and parents had accepted the changes; staff replied they consulted parents and teachers and plan a gradual rollout (fourth grade first, then fifth grade the following year) to minimize disruption.
No action was required at the meeting; staff will continue stakeholder engagement and return with implementation timelines.
