Jane Smith said Lancaster County GIS dates the garage to 1937 and described the building as too small to function practically as a garage.
The council’s planning staff and the borough Planning Commission had recommended approval, and borough staff verified required notices and postings prior to the hearing. Elijah (borough staff) confirmed the advertisement ran in the record on February 6 and February 13 and that the property posting occurred on February 5. After the applicant’s presentation, there were no public objections and a council member moved to approve the demolition application. The motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The structure is listed on the borough historic resources map, so the application underwent a conditional-use hearing with sworn testimony and formal exhibits. Council approval allows the property owners to remove the structure and proceed with their proposed work.
The council closed the conditional-use hearing and reopened the regular meeting after the vote. The Smiths thanked the council for its action.
