FDOT Skinner Boulevard Complete Streets project underway; eastbound detour flip planned after Mardi Gras

City Manager Jennifer Bramley briefed the audience at the State of the City on the Skinner Boulevard (State Route 580) Complete Streets improvement project, saying construction began in August and that work on the north sides of the roundabouts is complete.
Bramley said crews will flip traffic control to the southern portions of the roundabouts after Mardi Gras, with a tentative eastbound-to-westbound detour flip scheduled for March 12. She said the Florida Department of Transportation and the city will coordinate detour advertising and promote businesses affected by construction.
The project will reduce travel lanes, construct two roundabouts and add a multipurpose path connecting the Pinellas Trail to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Bramley stated the project budget is $9.2 million and that the funding comes from multiple entities, not solely the city.
She told the crowd the project is on schedule for early 2026 completion and that the city will use social media and other channels to notify residents and promote impacted businesses during detours.
