Senate Bill 10 83 was presented to the Senate Committee on Technology and Telecommunications by Senator Weaver and passed without recorded opposition.
Weaver said the bill, requested by AARP and discussed with the banking commission and private companies including CoinFlip, will address fraud occurring at kiosks and in digital-currency transactions. Weaver said the committee and stakeholders have worked on the measure all session and that language will continue to be negotiated; she asked the committee to move the bill forward so that continued work can occur.
A committee motion to pass the bill carried on a recorded roll call with seven ayes and zero nays; the chair declared SB 10 83 passed out of committee.
Weaver told the committee that if agreement cannot be reached during ongoing negotiations, the bill would not move forward; sponsors emphasized continuing stakeholder discussions as they refine the text.
