House committee votes to pass two bills, holds remaining calendar for study

House Bill 5034, introduced by Representative Edwards, allows school committees to add items not appearing on a published notice to their agendas for discussion only if the revised agenda is filed with the secretary of state and posted on the district website at least 48 hours before the meeting. Passage was moved by Speaker Pro Tem Kennedy and seconded by Vice Chair Corvaci; the committee approved the bill by voice vote. Representative Shanley presided.
The committee also passed House Bill 5231, offered by Representative Phillips, which requires that commercial driver instruction include industry-specific training on the recognition, prevention and reporting of human trafficking. Representative Corvaci moved passage; Speaker Pro Tem Kennedy seconded, and the committee approved the measure by voice vote.
After those actions, the committee considered the 10 other bills on the calendar and voted, on a motion by Speaker Pro Tem Kennedy and second by Whip Kazarian, to hold the remaining items for further study. Chairman Shanley stressed that a vote to hold is procedural and “does not signify any position on the merits of the bill.” The committee recorded voice votes for the two passings and for the hold motion; no roll-call tallies were given on the record.
