State museums, archives propose fees to cover research and services

Dave Glenn, director of State Parks and Cultural Resources, told the committee that statute currently restricts fees for archives research, museum admissions and facility rentals. He passed the presentation to Sarah (archives staff) to outline specifics.
Sarah said archives fees exist but “don't cover everything we probably want them to” and proposed a sliding scale for researcher time: minimal fees for simple records requests (for example, high‑school transcripts) and higher fees when staff provide extensive research assistance for books or academic projects. On museum fees, staff suggested resident or youth exemptions and nonresident admission as a model other states use to generate operating revenue.
Committee members asked for more detail on proposed scales and exemptions, and Glenn said agencies will return with more specific fee proposals and feasibility information for interim consideration.
