The Ohio Senate completed votes on several additional items during its Feb. 11, 2025 session. Two bills that reached third reading were adopted decisively.
Senate Bill 9 — tax conformity (emergency) Senate Bill 9, described by Senator Blessing as the annual tax conformity measure incorporating federal tax changes since March 15, 2023, including provisions addressing payments for the East Palestine disaster, passed with the emergency clause and final passage recorded as 31 yeas and 0 nays. The Senate recorded the emergency clause and then passed the bill as an emergency measure.
Senate Bill 24 — Wright Flyer 3 as state airplane Senate Bill 24, sponsored by Senator Johnson and co‑sponsors, designates the 1905 Wright Flyer III as Ohio’s state airplane. The bill passed on third reading by a recorded vote of 30 yeas and 0 nays. Supporters noted the Wright brothers’ central place in Ohio aviation history and invited colleagues to the planned dedication in the Dayton area.
Why this matters SB 9 aligns Ohio tax code with recent federal changes and includes an emergency clause intended to expedite state treatment of certain federal tax provisions. SB 24 is largely ceremonial but recognizes an item of state historical significance.
