At a special Legislative Policy Committee (LPC) meeting of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, staff said they were "very uncomfortable with the direction that it's going" regarding Senate Bill 337 and urged members to contact their state legislators.
The LPC said the bill was among "historic legislation" that had been filed and asked members to review a short LPC recap video for slides and discussion. "There should be no senate bills over 300, but we have them," the staff member said, and the committee solicited feedback through a Slido poll that it said showed concern.
Why this matters: LPC staff told members the bill raised enough concern that they should continue to press legislators. The staff reiterated a request that members "do not hesitate to reach out to your legislators, both representatives and senators, and let them know the discomfort you have with the bill and the concerns you have with that bill." The meeting record includes no formal motion, vote, or official position adopted at this session.
Meeting organizers said they would cover remaining bills, substitutes and negotiations at an LPC meeting on the following Monday and encouraged members to submit questions or items they wanted the LPC to address.
No formal action was taken during the segment recorded; staff framed the item as an update and a call for continued member engagement.
