Board to explore IT audit after public comments on gym access and cyber safety

During public comment, Coach Kenny Smith, identifying himself as a coach in the township’s youth program, urged the board to allow greater gym access for travel basketball. He said the program currently uses middle school facilities and two other schools but requested use of additional gyms (including School 5) during winter so teams have sufficient practice space. “...the fifth and sixth grade division has sixteen[sic], and out of those 16, each team has 10 kids on the team,” he said, describing how limited gym time has reduced practice opportunities.
Board members noted that the district is obligated to provide space for multiple community programs (soccer and others) and said they would revisit scheduling to assess needs and availability.
Separately, a board member announced a March 4 parent presentation on cyber safety and social media, organized by the Camden County Office of the Prosecutor in conjunction with the Winslow Township Police Department. The presentation will cover internet safety, cyberbullying, online predators, social media risks and related topics.
The board’s authorization on the IT item was described in the meeting as a motion to have the superintendent or designee ‘‘examine the cost and structure of what a technology audit would look like and bring it back to the board.’’ The transcript records assent during the discussion; no formal roll call appears for a final procurement decision in the transcript.
