Committee reports: Lake Committee discusses algae mitigation and water-ski proposal; Delavan Golf Commission weighs clubhouse bathroom and junior-golfer policy

Committee chairs provided updates on parks, the lake, the library, tourism, and the Delavan Golf Commission at the meeting.

Lake Committee: Tom Deezer reported the Lake Committee met on Feb. 5 and discussed plans to mitigate blue-green algae. A presenter also showed a proposal for a water-ski slalom course near Lake Lawn; the committee members indicated they liked the concept and noted a few additional questions. Deezer said the site as presented appeared outside the city’s jurisdictional project area but that the committee endorsed the concept so far.

Delavan Golf Commission: The Delavan Golf Commission met Feb. 17 (first meeting since Nov. 24). The commission discussed three new outings scheduled for 2025, reported delivery of a new pump station, and reviewed a contractor quote to add a bathroom to the clubhouse with an estimated cost in the $65,000 to $80,000 range. The commission voted to hold green fees at 2025 season rates, extend college passes to people 25 years and younger, allow supervised junior golfers 10 and older to play unsupervised for one year, and change its regular meeting date to the third Monday of each month.

Parks and Recreation: Alderwoman Armstrong said the Parks & Recreation Commission met Jan. 27 and discussed Phoenix Park Fanshell plans, improvements along the Lake Comas shoreline, and coordination with the school district to address youth sports programming gaps. Armstrong encouraged residents to visit the shoreline and see recent improvements.

Library Board and Tourism Commission: Alderman Seant reported the Library Board of Trustees met Feb. 20 and scheduled the next meeting for March 20 at 4:30 p.m. The tourism commission had not met since the last council meeting; its next meeting was scheduled for March 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The golf commission’s quoted bathroom estimate and program changes could affect capital planning and user access.
