"For Valentine's Day, Rec and Park partnered with the library to celebrate the city's tiniest residents with a tiny tot T Rex party where they combine traditional Valentine's Day candy, balloons, crafts, and snacks with dinosaurs," Gascon said.
Parents interviewed at the event said the activities helped young children socialize. One parent described the program as a chance for small children to "hang out with their friends, and there's all these special decorations that are exciting for them." Another parent said the dinosaur theme attracted their child but added, "for us, like, it's just nice to be out and be a part of the community." A third parent noted, "We love everything that Parks and Rec puts on. So we, figured it would be a good, diversion in the morning and gets him out of the house and gets us out of the house."
Event organizers brought story time to the program to encourage early literacy and to offer structured activities appropriate for toddlers, the segment reported. The Recreation and Parks Department's recurring community events and partnerships with the public library were presented as the vehicle for the program, described as a family-oriented morning of crafts, music and dancing.
