The Cumberland County Board of Education approved a series of personnel items during committee meetings Feb. 27, including routine hires and leaves, one limited teaching license and an administrative transfer. In closed session, the board approved the superintendent’s administrative recommendation for a director of operations.
During the personnel committee meeting, board members voted to approve the personnel list of school‑based hires and clerical staff, grant requested leaves of absence and accept a limited license for a teacher who met North Carolina Department of Public Instruction criteria but had not met a PRAXIS/Pearson cut score. The limited license binds the listed teacher to Cumberland County Schools while they complete certification requirements, district staff said.
Administratively, the superintendent transferred a currently contracted assistant principal from a high school back to an elementary assistant principal post at that administrator’s request; staff said that person had been in the high school assignment one year.
In closed session the board considered personnel items protected by state law and then approved the superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Forrester Braesmore (name as announced at meeting) to the district’s director of operations position. The motion to approve the superintendent’s recommendation was made by board member Jackie Warner, seconded by Dr. Hales, and approved by the committee.
Board counsel noted that North Carolina personnel confidentiality statutes govern applicant names and personnel discussions and confirmed that applicants may choose to waive confidentiality if they wish. The board and staff said they will communicate candidate and personnel updates through the established point of contact rather than individually to board members to reduce the risk of leaks and inconsistency.
