Council member Jennifer (identified in the audio) asked the school-district security update be broadened beyond lockdowns to include everyday campus security, and urged attention to sidewalk clearing and inclement-weather readiness at elementary and middle schools after reports of students being injured on sidewalks.
A council member said attendance figures remain a concern since the COVID period, asking for comparative year-to-year attendance data and whether the district is regaining students. Council discussed possible causes—open campus policies at high schools and running-start programs were raised as complicating factors—but agreed to request a formal attendance update from district administration.
Mayor Wagner and staff asked council members to forward suggested agenda items so staff can finalize the list for the March 18 joint session with the school board. Youth-council topics will be included in the proposed agenda.
