City posts Community Academy sign-up; King County to present draft flood maps for Jenkins and Little Soos creeks

Adam, a city staff member, told council that the Covington Community Academy is posted online and will begin March 13, running on Tuesday evenings for six weeks. “If you were interested in learning about what the police do ... I would encourage you to sign up,” Adam said, noting cross-jurisdiction participation from Black Diamond, Maple Valley, Covington and unincorporated King County.
Don, speaking for staff, reminded council that King County will host a community meeting at Covington City Hall on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to present draft flood maps for Jenkins Creek and Little Soos Creek. Don said the county will take public comment at that meeting and that the public comment period for the map process closes on April 12. He noted city staff would observe the meeting and that King County and the King County Flood Control District are leading the process.
Staff asked council members who plan to attend the King County meeting to notify the city so staff can issue appropriate notices. Selena and Ben were identified as staff planning to attend as observers.
The council also received routine staff updates on other items during the meeting.
