Covington Chamber reports fundraising, membership dip and ramped advocacy; March 13 luncheon planned

Dana Newts, representing the Covington Chamber of Commerce, gave the council a quarterly update on Feb. 25, describing membership trends, programming and a step-up in advocacy work.
“We raised $2,500 including a match from the GoodWork Fund to, give each of our nonprofits a hundred dollars,” Newts said, describing a recent small grant round. Newts said the chamber’s paid membership stood at 141 — roughly 30 fewer than at year-end — and attributed some of the decline to businesses closing or relocating rather than low chamber engagement.
Newts described an expanded government-affairs committee with about 10 engaged volunteers and said the chamber hosted a presentation from AWB on an “affordable Washington” initiative the chamber will participate in. She said the chamber plans four quarterly luncheons this year; the March 13 luncheon will be at Grill in the Woods and will feature the AWB presenters. The chamber also plans a larger business awards dinner and silent auction to raise funds for its Good Work Fund.
Newts said the chamber recently launched monthly morning meetups and a new CRM and website; she described the technology migration as having a learning curve but praised responsiveness from the vendor. The chamber also plans a business toolkit workshop on March 11.
Council members thanked the chamber for programming and advocacy work and confirmed the March luncheon details during the meeting.
