Central Mountain Middle School sidewalks, ramp and retaining walls scheduled for repair; public bid to be solicited

At the Feb. 25 facilities meeting Brett (staff member) told the committee that concrete work at Central Mountain Middle School is the district—s most deteriorated set of sidewalks and retaining walls and will be prioritized this year.
Brett said the ramp to the bottom level of the auditorium, the adjacent retaining walls and curbs have suffered years of damage from salt and water infiltration. He said he will walk the site with a contractor to obtain formal quotes and that the work will be put out for public bid. "It's on a 10-year plan each year to do some concrete work. And by far, this is the worst that we have in district," Brett said.
Accessibility and drainage are central concerns. Board members asked whether heated sidewalks would be considered; Brett said the district is not planning heated runs like those installed at Bucktail. He also said contractors will look at leveling the step at the auditorium door to improve ADA access and will investigate the drainage and the existing drain's effectiveness to reduce water intrusion.
Timing and procurement: Brett said local contractors will be invited to provide budgetary quotes and that he plans to use this year—s funding for the repairs. The district will pursue public bidding and shop locally where feasible.
Ending: staff asked the board for support to proceed with bidding and local contractor outreach; no formal vote was taken at the meeting.
