District staff presented six vendor quotes for a freestanding marquee for Liberty Curtain Elementary at the Feb. 25 facilities meeting and identified two front-runners.
Brett (staff member) said the district requested a double-sided sign with an 8–10 millimeter LED resolution message board and a backlit fixed name panel reading "Liberty Curtain Elementary." Quotes ranged from roughly $18,000 to the low $30,000s. Brett said some quotes included wireless or solar options but that the district can run Ethernet to the sign and does not require wireless.
Staff highlighted two vendors. Signs Plus submitted the lowest bid and included a 10-year warranty and, according to staff, strong responsiveness during the quoting process. Stewart Signs, which has previously supplied the district—s Bucktail marquee and was recommended by the district—s technology staff, quoted about $23,040 and uses a web-based control system that would give similar access to staff at both buildings. Brett said the brick pylons that will hold the marquee will be provided by a masonry contractor who has donated labor and materials.
"The company that actually came in in the lowest, has the best warranty... and they've also been the the easiest to communicate with," Brett said of his preferred vendor. Jeremy (technology staff) added that Stewart Signs uses a fully web-based control and that both Stewart and Signs Plus offered a 10-year warranty and lifetime free web-based software.
Next steps: staff said they will produce a comparison table listing company, price, included features, pixel resolution, warranty and any operational costs. The district requested a recommendation for the March board meeting because the masonry contractor needs sign dimensions to set the pylons; staff said an order placed in mid-March would meet the masonry schedule.
What was not decided: the board did not vote on a vendor at the meeting. Staff will return with a recommendation and a one-page comparison for the board agenda.
Ending: staff asked for authority to present a recommended vendor at the March meeting and to finalize the masonry dimensions once a vendor is selected.
