Board hears $1.5 million estimate to dredge Pond Run and clean dry ponds; members weigh prioritizing 20 Eighth Street drainage work

He told the board the silt in some ponds is as much as six to seven feet deep, which has reduced flood control capacity.

Mike noted the city has pursued funding for several years without success and said the lack of grants means the city must decide whether to advance the project using local funds or seek phased grant applications.
Board members discussed an adjacent 20 Eighth Street drainage replacement project that staff have designed and for which staff hoped to secure up to $500,000 from the state Clean Water SRF green‑infrastructure funding program. Board members asked staff whether to reallocate local stormwater reserves to accelerate the 20 Eighth Street work; staff said the city currently has a stormwater reserve balance that could be tapped but that additional budget action would be required.
Ending: No funding decision was made. Board asked staff to return with budget numbers and options for phasing the Pond Run cleanup and the 20 Eighth Street drainage work.
